When we go back to remembering what we valued growing up, we can try to make plans to actually go back to basics and enjoy the holidays.
Are you rushing through the Holidays?
When you look back at the holiday season as a child, what do you remember?? For me, listening to Christmas music, decorating our Christmas tree, eating yummy special food, gathering with family and friends, dressing up, and the excitement of opening up presents on Christmas morning and in Dia de Reyes. Somehow magically, my parents made it work…
As an adult, I now understand ALL that is involved in the magic of making things work. It can be stressful and according to an APA survey last year, 9 out of 10 adults in the US agree with me. Moreover, 43% stated that their holiday stress increase affects their ability to enjoy the season.
When we go back to remembering what we valued growing up, we can try to make plans to actually go back to basics and enjoy the holidays. For simplicity sake, some easy guides to help us enjoy the season are:
- Don’t over schedule
- Make a conscious budget
- Respect differences… a.k.a. Try to find common grounds
- Establish boundaries when needed… maybe take a breath and a walk
- Normalize your feelings… you are not alone
