What happens when you are in a waiting period for things that are out of your control and are not going to resolve/end in the near future? What happens when you are in a transition? When your kids roll their eyes?

Patience

If someone asked me to name two things in life that I didn’t like, I would say wearing open shoes when it’s wet outside and waiting in line. Needless to say, I’ve been working for years on my patience and have found that distraction is effective when I am waiting in line. I still don’t like it, but it’s manageable. But, what happens when you are in a waiting period for things that are out of your control and are not going to resolve/end in the near future? What happens when you are in a transition? When your kids roll their eyes? When Guns n’ Roses’ song Patience is not enough?

I have to confess, I started writing this Tuesday Tip with a clear view, but after listening to the song, it has just taken on a life of its own. Maybe it was Axel’s soothing dance, Slash's guitar solo, or mindfully listening to the song. Maybe it's all together but I suddenly feel more relaxed and even think that at times that I need more Patience the following lyrics can help with grounding:

“take it slow

It'll work itself out fine

All we need is just a little patience

Said, sugar, make it slow

And we'll come together fine

All we need is just a little patience”

So, what I’ll do, and I invite you to do as well at times of transition:

  • Have a little patience. Not much, just a little… take it slow
  • Use self affirmations “it will work out fine”
  • Activate your support system, someone who can say “we'll come together fine”
  • Practice grounding techniques
  • Listen to relaxing music (whichever works for you)
  • Maybe dance a little in a soothing manner
